MILES AND DIRECTIONS

0.0 Start at the Squaw Flat Trailhead.

0.1 Junction with Big Spring Canyon Trail; turn left.

1.1 Junction with Peekaboo Trail; turn left.

2.6 Junction with Lost Canyon Trail; go straight.

5.0 Peekaboo Camp. Retrace your steps to the trailhead

10.0 Arrive back at the Squaw Flat Trailhead.

Option: For a 5-mile shuttle hike, park a second car or arrange to be picked up at the Peekaboo Camp at the end of Salt Creek Road. To find Salt Creek Road, drive 0.9 mile west from the entrance station and take a left (south) onto a well-signed, paved road (marked Salt Creek) and go 0.5 mile before taking a left (east) onto an unpaved road. After 0.5 mile on the unpaved road, turn right (south) instead of going straight to the Cave Spring Trailhead. Drive 0.5 mile more until you see a locked gate across the road. This gate marks the official trailhead for Salt Creek and Horse Canyon Roads. Leave the vehicle in the parking area near Peekaboo Camp, but not in the campsites. When you get your permit, the staff at the visitor center will tell you the combination to the Salt Creek gate and whether it’s scheduled to change while you’re out hiking. GPS coordinates (Salt Creek): 38° 6' 52.931" N / 109° 45' 15.999" W. You need a high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicle with low-range gearing to get from here to Peekaboo Camp. Drive 2.7 miles to Horse Canyon Road; take a right and drive 1 mile more to the camp.
